I had the pleasure of seeing Star Trek: Into Darkness this weekend. Amidst crazy gravity defying scenes, great special effects and cryogenic freezers (?!), I couldn't help but notice Zoe Saldanas' makeup. She just looked to darned put together while she was kicking Klingon butt!

Although I've listed quite a few products, not all are necessary. The only things you really need are a dark brown eye shadow, a shadow similar to the tone of your skin, a highlighter, lip balm, and liquid/gel liner and mascara. I have no idea what Zoe's nails were like, but I imagine them being a simple nude color. Zoe also has very long lashes; you could use false lashes if you want, but I just stuck to tons of mascara.
I started off with a creamy base of MAC's Painterly Paint Pot, lightly applied with a fluffy brush all over the eye. I then chose a dark bronze eye shadow. The colour I chose here was "Smog" from Urban Decay, however you could also use MAC's "Espresso" for a deeper, matte finish. Really, any deep brown eye shadow will do. I applied this colour all over my lids, up to and including the crease, really packing it on close to the lash line. Then I selected Urban Decay's eyeshadow in "Foxy" and dusted this all over my brow bone. I blended some into the lid colour to make a nice gradient from dark on the lower lash line to light on the brow bone. For the final touch I used a gel liner and angled brush to make a winged line that thickens towards the outer corner of the eye. I curled my lashes and topped everything off with loads of mascara.
I recommend topping your cheek bones off with some highlighter, because Zoe has glowing skin in the movie. I used a bronzer/ blush/ highlighter called "Pink Leopard" from too faced. It seems to do the trick and give me a nice glow. I applied a bit of my Rosebud Salve lip balm to finish the look.
The entire eye is very quick and simple, although you could certainly make it more complicated if you wanted to. You could add an inner corner highlight, and/or a deeper colour in the outer corner of the eye for more dimension. For today, I kept it simple. After all, there are worlds to save!
Into Darkness was great, though I could have been spared the scene of Spock and Uhura bickering in the shuttle craft. The plot twists were fun. Is Khan the baddy? Or Not? Or is he? Or not?
