On The Weekend: The Grand Prix and Chocolate

This weekend was the Grand Prix in Montréal.  Fast, expensive cars were parked everywhere downtown, and you could even hear the races far off into the distance (those cars are loud!).  Aside from cool cars, another prevailing theme of the weekend seemed to be chocolate; I visited a student favorite: Juliette et Chocolat in St. Laurent.

I have never been in Montréal for the Grand Prix before, and I was surprised to see that it is such a big deal here!  Many busy streets are closed off for showing cars, and local vendors sported checked racing flags on their terraces.  The public can meander around and look at the cars (lots of people were taking pictures beside their favourites), and listen to free live music events.  Although it was a fairly rainy weekend, there were still throngs of people out to look at all the cars at all hours of the day.  The Grand Prix was very present this weekend, I could even hear the cars whizzing around the track from my apartment!

For a friends birthday, I visited Juliette et Chocolat.  This restaurant/ chocolate bar is a renowned favorite amongst students in the area.  This my fourth or fifth time here, so I knew what to expect: lots of chocolaty goodness.  of course, there are some savoury items on their menu, but why be subtle?  My group ordered a bottle of white wine for the table, and each got a different variation of sweet crepes.

I ordered the Dulce de Leche and Pear Crepe, and the Velvety Chill Martini.  Although the Crepe was delicious, the martini was something else.  It had milk chocolate, a pinch of fleur de sel, a shot of baileys all topped off with a scoop of hazelnut ice cream in the center.  It was like a Nutella ice cream martini!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
